A Regular Morning… Moisturiser Forgotten

By Nat Habit

You got busy. Stepped into the day. Didn’t feel dry. So you skipped moisturiser. But under your skin? A different story unfolds…

Corneocyte (outermost skin cell):

“Umm... did anyone feel that gust of dry air?” “I’m losing water and there’s nothing sealing me in. Evaporation alert! Transepidermal Water Loss is officially happening!”

Keratinocyte (living cell below):

“Where’s the hydration boost? No humectants today?” “If no one’s pulling water in or holding it here, I have to work overtime to keep the barrier intact. And that’s not a quick fix.”

Sebocyte (your oil gland):

“Moisture’s gone? Fine. I’ll just produce more oil to fake hydration.” “But don’t complain later if your forehead turns shiny or a pimple pops up!”

Langerhans Cell (immune responder):

“I’m starting to see microscopic cracks in the barrier. That means irritants could sneak in—pollution, microbes, anything.” “Should I activate the inflammation squad?”

Melanocyte (pigment cell):

“If inflammation kicks in or the barrier weakens, I’ll have to produce extra melanin to protect us.” “Dark spots incoming—not my fault!”

Fibroblast (collagen-maker, deep down):

“Dryness up top? That signals stress down here too.” “Without surface hydration, collagen fibres stiffen. Bounciness decreases. Skin starts looking dull and tired.”

Microbiome (your good skin bacteria):

“We’re drying out up here!” “No moisturiser means no balance in pH or nutrition. Our healthy environment is compromised, and bad bacteria might take over.”

All Cells Together:

“Moisturiser isn’t about looking dry—it’s about staying healthy.”
“We need hydration (like aloe), nourishment (like milk, honey, oils), and protection (like butters or occlusives).”
“Even if you didn’t wash, the environment still pulls moisture from us. Help us hold the line!”

Your Skin’s Quiet Request:

“I don’t ask for much. Just a daily drink and a blanket to hold it in.”
